Cross River Bank, a technology-focused US bank that helps businesses provide banking and payment services, has partnered with Ripple to integrate its US dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, into its banking system. The integration will support transactions on the XRP Ledger (XRPL), a public blockchain built to move money quickly and efficiently.
Announced today, the partnership brings blockchain payments closer to the traditional banking system. This could make it easier for companies to move money across borders without depending entirely on traditional payment systems.
Cross River Embraces RLUSD
Cross River Bank helps financial technology companies offer banking, lending, and payment services without having to build their own banking systems. Its platform connects traditional banking services with digital businesses, allowing them to serve customers through a single financial network.
Through its fintech partnerships, Cross River reaches more than 100 million customers, giving the RLUSD integration the potential to reach far beyond the crypto market. By adding RLUSD to its Core Operating System, the bank will make stablecoin services available through infrastructure businesses.
The integration is designed to support dollar conversions, international payments, and transfers between business accounts at any time of day.
Adam Goller, Cross River’s Head of Fintech Banking, said:
“Businesses shouldn’t have to rely on several different providers to move money across the globe.”
His comment points to a common challenge for businesses operating internationally: moving money between countries can involve several providers, different systems, and extra costs.
Ripple’s RLUSD Expands Reach Across Financial Services
Since launching RLUSD in December 2024, Ripple has worked to establish the stablecoin as a payment and settlement option for businesses and financial institutions. It is designed to maintain a value of $1 per token and is backed by cash, US dollar deposits, and short-term US Treasury securities.
RLUSD is available through crypto exchanges and institutional trading platforms, including Kraken, Bitstamp, Bullish, and LMAX Digital, helping more users and businesses access the stablecoin.
Ripple has also brought RLUSD into its payments business, targeting financial institutions and payment providers seeking faster ways to move funds internationally. Its wider expansion includes work involving Mastercard, WebBank, and Gemini to explore stablecoin settlement for card payments.
Cross River’s integration adds another route into traditional finance by placing RLUSD within a US bank’s existing technology and payment systems. Rather than relying only on crypto exchanges, Ripple is working to make the stablecoin useful within the financial services businesses already use.
